Trips and visits
With the open spaces of Blackheath and Greenwich Park on our doorstep, withand the outstanding academic and cultural institutions of London within easy travelling distance along and with easy access to the Kent countryside, Blackheath Prep’s enviable location makes learning outside the classroom plain sailing.
From Nursery upwards, we offer an engaging programme of visits to museums, galleries, lectures and theatres. Trips and workshops provide enrichment of the curriculum as well as stimulus for creativity upon the return to school.
Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 enjoy residential outdoor adventure trips that focus on developing independence, self-confidence and teamwork. Activities on offer include high ropes courses, water sports activities, abseiling and problem-solving and team-building tasks. Children are exposed to situations in which they need to make decisions about risk-taking and personal safety, albeit in a controlled environment.
Welcoming inspirational visitors into school is another important part of our provision. Pupils have listened, spellbound, to a visiting polar athlete, a Paralympian, an astronomer, a scientist and a number of authors and illustrators, to name but a few.
Visiting parents representing a variety of professions have shared their expertise and encouragement, while others have brought to life the customs and practices of a wide range of cultures and religions.
